Slimey....

Rhett has a new nickname. This kid is refusing to swallow anything including his drool, which is very thick and slimey....hence the new nickname.

Before we came up here I purchased some bibs from Walmart almost thinking it was a dumb idea, but I followed the voices in my head for once........hee hee hee.

Anyways, by far the best investment I have ever made. Wow can that kid drool.

So we are still here, and no different than we were before. Still not eating or drinking. He is on maintenance fluids, and is getting puffy. If he gets any puffier they are going to have to cut his name band off of his ankle.

We did get transferred to the floor this afternoon though. The only bad thing is that Rhett can't see the TV because it's too small in this room, and his nystagmus is really bad right now. It seems to get worse when he is sick or tired. He is having a really hard time focusing.

Thank heavens I brought my IPOD, and the charging station so we can sing signing time songs.
We are also reading alot of Elmo books, I could read them to you backwards if you want......

He walked around the surgical floor for a bit tonight, and went down to the cafeteria for dinner with me and my sister. I put a bowl of soft serve ice cream in front of him and gave him a spoon and he dipped it and drooled it all over, but he did get a little in him I guess.

So the plan is to place an NG tube in the morning, they will teach me all of the ins and outs and how to place it then we will go home either tomorrow evening or Monday morning. I think this NG tube is a great idea. It will be so much easier to give his meds, and we will be able to keep him hydrated. I am a little nervous about the fact that it could go into his lungs rather than his stomach, but I am sure I will be able to do it.

Anyways, I better get back to him before he freaks the nurses out with his bradychardia again. He likes to sit at a baseline of 57. They all keep asking me if he's okay. I finally convinced them to turn down his settings so we weren't alarming every 5 seconds.

Thank you again for all of the prayers. We love each and every one of you. I can't say that enough.

We're keeping the prayers coming...your little man is one tough dude! Here's hoping the NG tube makes things a little easier on you, and that you're home sooner than you think.

Love and hugs...

Sounds like you are hanging in there. It is as if time does not exist during hospital stays. I always feel like I am in a time warp. I hope you are getting some rest for yourself.

We bought a very cheap kids DVD player for hospital stays. It came in very handy. That might be an idea for next time. M would put it right next to her head since she was too weak to move much. I think we got ours at Target for less than 80.

Prayers. hugs.

Sounds like Rhett is doing really well. Oh yes the drooling. I remember slipping and almost falling on a puddle of drool where Tristan had been sitting for a while. Hopefully the NG tube will make things better. I couldn't get any meds in Tristan by mouth and had to resort to suppositories. I hope you get to go home soon! Hang in Pam sounds like your doing well too. ((HUGS))

WOw, that he was even allowed to go to the cafeteria with you is a great sign! That's our trooper, huh? :-)

Oh, I remember the days of Nik's NG...and how often he would pull it out! In case the nurses do't give you thit particular tip...wrap a small bit of tape around the measurement where it is supposed to be just coming out of his nose. That way you can tell at a glance if it's at all displaced. It's not fun, but you'll do great, I know!

Hi~I'm amanda from myrtle beach, and I was sent to your blog from the "Dream Big" blog because Rhett was to have surgery.

I'm a little late on my reading, but I want to say I'm glad his surgery is over with, and I hope he gets well soon. In the meantime I will say prayer for him and his family.

I've been thinking/praying for Rhett all weekend. I'm glad to hear he is well enough to go home. Hopefully he won't have to be on the NG very long. I remember quite vividly worrying when Noah was going to pull his out. I was always reapplying tape. Hang in there and give Rhett and big ol' slimy kiss for me. Terry
