A Small Favor.....

Our kids are getting very nervous about Rhett being in Surgery tomorrow. We have told them that he has a ton of people praying for him, but I don't think they quite understand how many.

So today and tomorrow I am asking for all of the lurkers on our blog to leave a comment, and yes, you can comment anonymously. Our older kids will be checking the blog to look for new comments over the next two days.

Any posts and updates will be added to the bottom of this post. Thank you so much for the prayers and the comments, I think it will help our children get through this a little better.

HUGS!!

Update #1........

Thank you for the comments. Dakota, Hunter, and Chloee are all loving coming to the computer and seeing the love shown for our family.

Update #2
Rhett just had a blessing, and we are feeling very good about this surgery and his recovery. We are completley uplifted by all of your prayers. I cannot even begin to describe the sense of peace we have right now.
We are off to bed for the night.

Update # 3
Happy World Down Syndrome Day!!!
Today is also Good Friday. How could this not be a good day for surgery right?
We are just getting ready to head to the hospital. It's 6:15 am........
I have taken a deep breath and am ready to face the world.
Bring it on Baby, Bring it on..........
((HUGS))
Pam and the rest of the Bird Flock.
------------------------------------------------
UPDATE # 4
We are out of surgery and resting in the PICU. The first thing we saw when we walked through the doors was the nurse that overdosed him. Talk about a flood of emotions. I am okay, but Andy is really struggling.
They took out the tonslis, and decided to just trim the uvula. They did do some reconstructing of his muscles though to bring them up rather than them falling down and collapsing. Right now they are only giving him Tylenol. They are really trying to keep him a little on the uncomfy side so that he is not on Narcotics, and not having his respritory system depressed.
He has already kicked his IV out, and had about 6 other pokes after that to get a new one in. He is sleeping right now after it taking 6 of us to hold him down for an IV. Dang he's strong. That's my boy!!! :)
So now we just wait and see how he does. I will update later when I get a chance, or if anything major changes.
Thank you again for all of your prayers.
((HUGS))
The Bird Flock
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Update #5
Wow he is in alot of pain. We are trying to get him to take some rootbeer slushie, or ice chips or something, but he is having none of it. He is currently sporting a "Ladies Man" Bib to help with all of the drool that he is producing.
BUT-----His breathing is great. Saturating at 100 on 1 liter of 02......WHILE SLEEPING.
We are also getting a consult with a new GI surgeon, and a GI Dr.
His cardiologist wasn't even supposed to be at the hospital today, but came in to visit with us and to make sure Rhett made it through surgery okay. Now that is ONE AWESOME DOCTOR!!!
Other than that we have had a slew of visitors that have taken care of him previously while in the PICU. Once word got round that he was here everyone had to come get some love from the Rhett Man.
Andy is staying with me for dinner tonight. They kick us out of the PICU for shift change at 7 pm so Andy and I will have dinner then he will go home to take care of our other 3 chicklets.
The childlife specialist made us a very cute poster for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day. He has it hanging in his window. How's that for spreading awareness???
Thank you again for all of the prayers, I really can't thank you enough. They have really helped. I am in awe at the support we have. We love each and every one of you.

Hi kids! You wouldn't believe the number of people prayer not just for Rhett, but for your whole family. Let's see, there's the 3 of us in our house, my mother, her great-grandmother's village in Italy is saying a mass for Rhett, I've emailed all of Nik's old nurses and therapists (well over a dozen), friends in NY, FL, VA, GA, CA, CT...I'm sure I missed some. Oh, and my mother's cousin in Iowa has added Rhett to her daily prayer circle. AND they're all spreading the word!

I know it's a scary time right now; try to stay strong and keep on living life the way you do every day! :-)

Sending lots of love from Nik and his mom and dad.

Rhett- you are in my heart today. I pray for a successful, uneventful surgery and recovery. Also sending lots of love to mom, dad, brothers and sister for peace and comfort during this time.

I found your blog through Tammy and Parker, and I wanted to let you know that my family and I will be praying for Rhett. We know that surgeries + the extended hospital stays afterwards are extremely hard. We love you and wish that you didn't have to do this.

Kiss that strong boy for me (a BIG kiss, okay?!). Everything will be fine. Love you and PRAISE GOD for giving all of you courage and you, Pam, insight...so much insight. xxx

I'm glad to hear that Rhett is doing well on oxygen, that's great. I hope that his pain subsides soon.

We alternated Tylenol and Ibuprofen every three hours for E...for a WEEK. Twice they used morphine, but only twice. She didn't have to have anything trimed although they expected they would.

Anyway...many hugs to you and your family from our house to yours.
