Fact-yes they do carry salmonella. Amost all reptiles carry this. Not a good thing to have around a kid who has surgeries and open wounds in particular. Gross.
Fact~It is possible for them to CARRY Salmonella. HOWEVER, if you keep their cages clean, and use good washing habits the chances of getting it is very minimal. Especially when they are out in the garage.
If we didn't know how to care for them, it would be a different story. But we have talked with reptile vets and have it all under control.
Just an FYI, we have had them for over 2 1/2 years and never had any issues with Salmonella.
You have a higher chance of getting it from raw chicken than you do from handeling a dragon that has clean a clean living space and is properly cared for.
Thanks for you kind words and for being concerned though!! ;)
If you would like to help offset some of the costs that it takes to keep our sweet little guy going, a medical fund has been set up for Rhett. Anything donated will go directly to Rhett's medical care.
My face may be different but my feelings are the same. I laugh and I cry and take pride in my gains. I was sent here among you to teach you to love, as God in the heavens looks down from above.
To Him, I'm no different His love knows no bounds; It's those here among you in the cities and towns, that judge me by standards that man has imparted, but this family I've chosen, will help me get started.
For I'm one of the children so special and few, that came here to learn the same lessons as you. That love is acceptance, it must come from the heart; we all have the same purpose, though not the same start.
The Lord gave me life to live and embrace, and I'll do it as you do, but at my own pace.
