It seems like we have been here forever........

Today is number 8 for our hospital stay, and number 6 being on the vent. Sigh.......
He is taking little itty bitty baby steps on getting better, but this whole pulmonary effusion thing is holding him back. He has so much fluid around his lungs, that they can't expand enough. So they are doing an ultrasound today, and they are probablly going to go in and drain it sometime today. He has been quite alert, and holds my hand, and cries when I leave, so I asked for a little more sedation. They have put him on adavan.

Sunday afternoon, he smiled at Andy when he was playing peek-a-boo. And today when I put his hand in mine, and said patty cake, he smiled and tapped my hand on his own. I like the fact that he is awake, but I do think that he needs to stay comfy, so I don't want him too awake. When he isn't totally schnauckered he can cough up the crap in his lungs alot better so that it isn't just sitting there. We might put him in a little chair thingy today to get the fluid moving.

Yesterday he pooped like 3 times and filled 5 diapers in the process. He hadn't pooped in over a week. So that means that the hernia repair is probablly ok. Ah the little things that make you so happy. He did have a small bradychardic episode last night, where his heartrate dropped to 59, but it was only for a few seconds. They did an EKG, and it all looked ok. I think that it is the presedex and the adavan together that are causing the heart rate to drop, so they increased the adavan and slowed down the presedex. The presedex is kinda like valium, and it is really short acting, so when they extubate they want him on that.

I think we are still a few days from extubation though. I miss my other kids, and I think I am going to go home for a little bit tomorrow to see them. Rhett's little neighboor has T21 too, and she is not doing very well, she had open heart surgery on the 4th of Jan, and she went to the cath lab yesterday, and came back really sick. She has severe pulmonary hypertension, and barely made it through the night last night. Could you all say a little prayer for her and her family? They are so sad, and we are very sad for them. Thank you for all of the prayers for our family, I can tell they are working. I think the hardest thing for me is that I have absouletly no control over this situation. All I can do is pray and know that Heavenly Father will take care of us and our little boy. I will update tomorrow.........

Were rooting for Rhett at our house. I am so sorry he is still on the vent. I am glad to hear he is able to go to the bathroom, since it is a good sign.

Hugs to you and Rhett from Elainah and I.
