Little Miss Smarty Pants.

Chloee is so smart. I kid you not dear readers, she could be going into the first grade rather than kindergarten. We took her in for her 5 year check up yesterday, she did really well. She even knew our phone number when the doctor asked her what it was.

I about fell off of my seat. I didn't even know she knew it. She can spell, read about 25 words, and write sentences. She talks like a 10 year old. She came up to me the other day and told me she was apprehensive about going to kindergarten. Shocked, I asked her if she knew what apprehensive even meant. She looked at me like I was an idiot, and said, "Mommmmmm, It means N-E-R-V-O-U-S." Well then, I guess I got told.

The most amazing thing about her, is that she knows sign language. I would say that she knows at least 200 signs in ASL. I must admit that I really have not had a whole lot to do with it. You see, where Rhett has DS, we have been working on teaching him sign language, as children with DS are often delayed in their speech. This helps us as well as him communicate back and forth.

There is a wonderful product out there called Signing Time! They are DVD's and CD's that teach children sign language. We own all of them. The great thing about it, is that they make up songs to go with the signs. Entertaining, yet educational. Right now Rhett watches the Baby Signing Time! DVD's. He knows about 15 signs right now. Not bad for an 18 month old.

Chloee knows all of the signs on those DVD's and also all of the ones from the first 6 volumes, plus some that she has learned from watching it on TV. She is just amazing. Rachel, the person who made Signing Time! is Chloee's hero. When we asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up the other day, she said that she was going to be Rachel from Signing Time! She tells everyone that she owns all of the DVD's and CD's that Rachel has made.

When she gets married and has a little girl, her name will be Leah, and her little boy will be Alex. (Leah is Rachel's daughter, and Alex is her nephew.) I love it when I walk into the living room, Chloee is sitting there watching Signing Time!, and she just sighs and says, "Ah, I just love Rachel.....she is the smartest person ever." I am so thankful that for right now, Chloee's hero is someone who is educational, and not like some of these other stars that wear next to nothing, and are annoying as all get out.

While we were in Disneyland there were some people in line behind us, and she was teaching their whole family signs. They could not believe how much she knew. When I explained to them that she has a little brother with DS, that we were teaching him sign language, and that Chloee had just picked up on it since December, they were amazed. Yes my daughter is a little miss smarty pants, and I would not have her any other way.

You are in for it, Pam! So cool though! You GO Chloee! We MUST get Nora and Chloee together. They are TWINS! Nora throws these big words at me too. Crazy! I ask her where the heck she hears this stuff and she tells me that she listens to my "client" conversations. So funny how they use each and every word in context too. I love your "smarty pants!" I say "play date" in Oct. after this baby comes. I'm headed to UTAH!

Dear Chloee,
I am completely HONORED to be your hero! Nice job learning so many signs from Signing Time! If I get to meet YOU someday, I will happily autograph your Signing Time collection.

Do you have the Silly Pizza Song memorized? What about the SIlly Pizza Song #2? Silly Pizza 2 is on Signing Time DVD #12 Time To Eat. :-)

Thanks for making my day! It's pretty cool to have kids want to grow up and BE you. Here's my secret: Grow up and be a mom, who loves her kids to pieces!... then you will be just like me.

Thank you so much for the comment Rachel! It just made Chloee's day! She had to call all of her grandmas, and her aunt and tell them that you "Talked" to her! What an amazing person you are!
