Out Of The PICU......

Rhett has been moved to the floor now. We are in room 3078 now. He has started having issues with the retching and gagging. He is retching up lots of white foamy stuff. I don't know why, but the nurses seem to think it's just his spit building up because he doesn't want to swallow a whole lot. When he does it I make sure I am suctioning him so he doesn't aspirate it.

He also is in a bit more pain since he is just getting scheduled doses of Morphine instead of being on a drip. They still haven't started feeding him, and the surgeon hasn't even talked to me since yesterday morning just after surgery. So he is still getting fluids through his IV, as well as all of his pain meds, and other meds.

He keeps trying to sit up and fold himself in half like he normally does, and then starts crying.

So that's where we are now, sleeping, gagging, retching, and crying....in that order then starting all over again. Poor little guy.

Thank you so much for all of the prayers. I really appreciate them, we all do.

Oh, and Amanda, on Thursday....I need some hairspray!!! All I have is mousse, I don't know where my hairspray went, and I have a serious case of hat head. :) Thanks Chicky.......love ya.

Yeah, the gagging and retching is pretty normal. Glad he's out of the PICU but sorry he's feeling punky. :-( It'll get better, I promise you! The first 10 days was the hardest for Nik. Heck, it's major surgery (at least, his was b/c they had to move his intestines, too!) so he's gonna be sore for a while. But he'll bounce back fast! :-)

Sending love and prayers. xo

I am thinking and praying for you and your family. Poor Rhett, it makes me so sad, as a mom I know what it is like to feel like something isn't right and you don't get an answer that seems very thought about. I hope Rhett starts to feel better soon.

I'm so glad Rhett has made it through the surgery and is already in his own room. So hard when your baby doesn't feel good and you can't do much to help. You are there for him, that is a huge comfort for him! Take care, prayers being said here, too.

Our prayers continue. Up on the floor means your on your way out. Soon I hope.I think you guys opted for the Nissen, right? In which case the retching and gagging are normal. Remember, although some stuff can sometimes escape past the wrap ,it pretty much ensures he won't aspirate. Just get past these recovery days and you can get him back on track. Promise.

All our love, Zoey and crew

Just something I found out use Xlear (for noise) for ear infection. It prevents bacteria from multiplying and spreading.

Hope it helps.

Your in my prayers... All of you.

Hey sister - I keep checking in and am happy to read that you've been moved into your own room. Poor Rhetters. I keep saying special prayers for him. You mention the sitting up and folding himself in half. Elliot tried to do that after the untethering and I hear you...he couldn't either. I think that made him more angry than anything. Please do call if you want an ear...I won't bug you on your cell, but wanted you to know that we were thinking of you. Nora and I say our nightly Rhett prayers and she makes certain that Chloee gets a bunch as well. Hang in there.
