Andy's Art.......

Okay so here's the deal. Since we are going the whole month of July without insurance, we need help. We are supposed to go up to PCMC tomorrow for Rhett's post op check up with the surgeon, and they already want to know what amount we will be able to pay up front. I told them 5.00 and I thought the lady was going to laugh in my face...(or ear, since it was over the phone.)...Seriously, I just filled up our Durrango and it cost us $101.00. So $5.00 is all they're getting. My kids do have to eat, and Rhett can't go around commando in the back yard just so that the hospital has their money.

To top it all off we have to get a new Dryer.....and I don't know how many more days our washer has left in it. We got them when Hunter was two, and he is now almost 10, so with a family of 6 I guess we have gotten good use out of them. I do at least 5 loads of laundry a day.

Before we were thrown into a life of Medical Delima's, not just with Rhett but with Andy and Dakota as well, we had a little put away for things like this. But now we are living paycheck to paycheck, and still doing the catch up game on all of the bills. (Granted we will NEVER be caught up on medical bills.)

When you take into consideration how many medical supplies that Rhett uses each day, it really adds up. There's the oxygen concentrator, the tanks of portable O2, the gauze for his dressing changes, the pediasure that goes through is feeding tube, the Mefix tape, the cannula's, the extensions for the G-tube, the feeding bags, the feeding pump, the syringes, the pulse ox machine, the nebulizer, I could go on and on......Then there are his blood pressure meds, and the Miralax. Fortunately there are generic brands of these, and we can get them for around 35.00 a month.

However Dakota is on alot of meds too. He is on Lamictal. This has no generic brand. The price for a month's supply of just the Lamictal is $400.00. Then he is on Zoloft, no big deal, it's only $4.00 for the generic brand at Wal-mart. Then he also takes Risperdal. That is around $160.00 for a month supply.

So do you see our delima? It's going to be a rough month.

We came up with a plan though. See Andy has been taking Art Classes. He just finished his first piece of Art. It is a beautiful buffalo that we took a picture of when we were in Yellowstone last year. This was all done in pencil, and took him about three months to complete.

"Tatanka"

Beautiful isn't it? This is a signed limited addition copy. There are only 100 of these that have been printed. The picture an 11x14, matted in a 16x20 frame.

So here's the plan. We are going to run this until the end of July. Anyone that donates 10.00 or more to our medical fund will be entered in a drawing for this on August 1st.

You can donate through the PayPal link on the side bar. You don't have to have an account with PayPal to do it.

I have contacted a few other people to see if they would like to donate anything to give away as well, so that more than one person could win something. So stay tuned, there may be more prizes to come. If you have anything that you would like to donate you can email me at mom2rhett@hotmail.com.

Thank you so much for those of you who have offered to help, and for those of you who continue to pray for our family. Those prayers mean more to us than you will ever know. I would not be where I am today, (still sane) ;) without those prayers.

Our family is so blessed to have such wonderful caring friends and family.

Wow! Beautiful drawing - I find it especially interesting since I just watched "Dances With Wolves" last night, where the use the word Tatanka a lot. This will make a lovely addition to someone's home.

I just happened upon your blog...have you tried going to www.needymeds.com and applying for assistance through the pharmaceutical companys for these expensive meds? Most of them will be supplied at $5-$40...just a thought! Good luck! You have a beautiful family!
