Out Of ICU......

We were moved to the Neuro-trauma unit this evening. They kept him in ICU a bit longer because he wasn't peeing and he was blowing up like a ballon. He also has had some issues with low blood pressures. They all kind of seem to be resolving themselves though. They are watching his puffiness though and will give him a dose of lasix in the morning if his urine output is still low.

They are kind of watching everything from the waste down, and him not peeing could be a sign that something is wrong. He is peeing a little though tonight, just not a whole lot. He has finally gotten to eat something. They let him have some Jello, and he ate like 6 containers in two hours.

Then around 8 they started his feeds through his G-tube. I have also requested that he gets his morphine or loratab every 4 hours rather than waiting to see if he needs it. He has been very agitated that he has to stay on his back and not sit up.

He also seems like his head hurts. He keeps putting his hands over his ears and eyes then says owie. Of course I worry that he has a spinal fluid leak, which is the whole reason he is on his back anyways. But he was supposed to be on his tummy all day yesterday, and it didn't happen because he is not a tummy kid. Plus they carturized some granulation tissue when he was in the OR and so his stoma is sore.

Anywho, I plan on asking his Neurosurgeon when he rounds in the morning about it. Right now he is sleeping and the room is dark so he doesn't seem too upset. All I know is that he wants to be up and running which is a good thing because that will get us out of here sooner. But he needs to wait till tomorrow afternoon to do it!!

We are hoping on Sunday that we will get to come home.

We have been watching LOTS of Signing Time movies and listening to the CD's. His new favorite song is Leah's Farm. He keeps signing Leah and then animals to me. We have listened to this song about 25 times today. I am all about keeping this kid happy right now.

He keeps asking me about home. I tell him soon, soon he will be home.

BTW, Andy, this post is for you since it's too late to call because I know you are in bed. Love You Honey!! I am going to go get some Ice Cream and go to bed.

Night......

Hope that Rhett is peeing ok now; kidneys and blader are usually the last to recover from anesthesia (which slows everything down).

So glad the surgery went well; it sounds like --despite discomfort, he's doing well.

Praying that the headaches go away, his pain is undercontrol & that the kidneys/ urine output pick up so that Rhett can go HOME!! Sending big hugs from Ohio!

Glad to see everything is going in the right direction. Carson loves the Rainbow/color song and the one where she sings lay down in your bed.....not sure the names. I just know that he sings those two all the time. Anyways, hope you take care of yourself as well and will check on you guys tomorrow.

Hey Pam. Great news that he is out of ICU. And, don’t you worry about a spinal fluid leak. I too worried about that, but it is a rare complication. Elliot was really puffy too and had a hard time urinating. Common, I was told. Happy to hear that he gets his special Signing Time “time.” Elliot is now addicted to Volume I! Told you that I ordered it and I'm glad that I did! At any rate, do call if you need anything. You’ll be home before you know it! Prayers from all of us for a very quick recovery. Love you.
